Every year the Czech Dance Platform Festival presents a selection of the most interesting works of the Czech dance scene.
It is sought after not only by the public, but especially by domestic and foreign professionals. The platform is a great opportunity for networking – it encourages intensive networking and international and national contacts and subsequent cooperation.
A dramaturgical board made up of independent experts from the dance field (critics, curators, producers, artists), from 2024 onwards with an international composition, selects every year 7-10 most interesting performances of the past year.
The spice of the platform is the rich accompanying program, which includes Meet the Artists, site-specific projects, Artist Trips, discussions, presentations and much more.
The Czech Republic is the only European country where the platform has maintained its annual continuity. The 30th anniversary edition was held in 2024.
THE MAIN CRITERIA
- The International Dramaturgical Council strives to present high-quality and diverse works.
- Czech works are understood to be productions by Czech artists created domestically or during foreign internships/residencies, as well as works by foreign artists who have been working in the Czech Republic for a long time.
- One author/choreographer may have only one work selected in a given year.
The platform prefers recent works from the last year, with select exceptions made for works from the last two years. Each work can only be submitted once.- An exception may be made for works that were submitted in the previous year but could not be included for objective reasons.
- Dance and movement theater encompasses a wide range of forms: from pure dance to genre crossovers to performance art and new circus.
- Another important criterion is the international potential of the works—their ability to resonate with foreign audiences.
- The following are evaluated in particular:
- originality and unmistakable artistic language
- the topicality of the theme and the authors’ stance
- the professional level of execution and stage components
Organizational conditions
- Application deadline: December 5, 2025
- A video recording of the entire production must be submitted as soon as possible, no later than January 3, 2026.
- Selected productions may not be staged in Prague two weeks before and two weeks after the platform, throughout April 2026.
Dance & Youth Section
In 2026, we are opening a pilot section focused on productions for children’s audiences for the first time.
- Productions from the last three years (2023–2025) intended for children and young audiences are eligible to apply.
- Selection criteria: quality, originality, interactive approach engaging children’s audiences.
- The section will include an expert discussion reflecting the development of children’s productions in the Czech Republic and in the European context.
- The selection of works is ensured by an international Dramaturgical Council, which also assesses the involvement of the children’s audience and the possibility of international presentation
