ABOUT VENUE
The Unijazz Reading Room offers a cosy living space every day except Sunday, welcoming visitors to study, relax, or socialize. Its diverse club programme features author readings, lectures, film screenings, concerts, and theatre performances several times a week. A new exhibition opens each month, alongside a regular chess tournament. Additionally, books, magazines, and music media from the original Reading Room are gradually being relocated here. Visitors can explore the programme menu, photo gallery, and bar offer to get a glimpse of the space, which aims to preserve the atmosphere of its original location in Jindřišská Street.
The first Unijazz Reading Room was established in 1997 in a former Dairy Research Institute lab, transformed entirely by dedicated Unijazz members. For over 20 years, it served as a cultural refuge in Prague’s city center, hosting countless events—from readings and concerts to lectures, exhibitions, and legendary Christmas parties. Its archive, filled with donated books, magazines, and music, became a valuable resource for cultural enthusiasts.
After leaving the original space, Unijazz began discussions with SUDOP in 2019 to establish a new Reading Room in Krenovka, a listed cultural building undergoing reconstruction. While waiting, the Reading Room went on the road, hosting events across Prague, producing a podcast, and publishing an anthology.
On 18 June 2022, the Reading Room reopened at Husitská 22 in Žižkov, now part of the Krenovka Incubator, a creative hub for young artists and Dance Prague. A new chapter in its history is unfolding, and Unijazz looks forward to welcoming visitors into this evolving cultural space.
