ABOUT SHOW

The dance performance “Lontano” invites the audience on an introspective journey that begins in the silence of the comfort zone and gradually moves away from the familiar towards the uncertain but authentic spaces of the human soul. Through physical expression, layered movement structures, and sensitive use of space, the production deals with the theme of stepping out of one’s comfort zone, which is inevitably accompanied by inner fears and conflicts. These are reflected in the performers’ bodies as tension, spasms, held breath, or sharp contrasts in rhythm, revealing the process of inner struggle.

Lontano follows a person’s dialogue with themselves, their hidden fears, and the pressure of their surroundings. The choreography is based on alternating resistance and release, restraint and breakthrough, as if the body were constantly oscillating between the desire to stay and the urge to step out. Each movement is a step further – lontano, “far away” – not only from safety, but above all towards greater truthfulness towards oneself.

The interactions between the performers underscore the difficulty of this process: the surroundings can act as a barrier, but at the same time reveal the power of shared experience. The lighting design and sound composition create changing emotional landscapes in which the viewer can lose themselves as well as find themselves. This creates an environment where a quiet but intense struggle for change is waged both externally and internally.

“Lontano” is an invitation to confront one’s own limits and to have the courage to transcend them. It creates a space for the realization that distancing oneself from the familiar does not necessarily mean escape, but rather a return—a return to the essential, to oneself.

ABOUT AUTHOR

Adéla Kaválková

Adéla is a young emerging dancer who longs to step onto the stage. I graduated from the Duncan Centre Dance Conservatory and want to keep growing in an art form that gives my life meaning. Through dance, I want to bring people not only smiles but also a wide range of emotions such as joy, tension, tenderness or reflection. I aspire to tell stories through movement and touch audiences in a way that stays with them.
